EIOS System is the first insulation system in the world based on the concept of Avoiding Condensation by applying the Principle of Avoiding Condensation.
The Principle of Avoiding Condensation is based on achieving an overall Non-Permissive (vapor impermeable) Thermo-Insulation enabling the removal of air/vapor transfer in the thermal insulation applied continually to create a thermal enclosure.
EIOS Thermosystem in general is the only insulation and cladding system based on the concept of avoiding the condensation phenomenon. Any other insulation and cladding system is based on the classical way to build according to moisture-control practice and principles. Because of this, EIOS System is the most advanced Cladding, Insulation, and Finishing System that you can have for your house or building investment, with real functionality, durability, and quality advantages.
"Moisture control" means that moisture is a permanent presence in the building envelope, and cladding and insulation systems are designed to reduce condensation and manage moisture issues. In moderate (not extreme cold or hot) climates, condensation water is above one pound per square foot (3-6 kg/m²) of building envelope in a cold or hot season that dries in more than 100 days, depending on wall configuration. Other forms of intruding water are added such as storm water or absorbed and capillarity water. The penetrated water in the entire building envelope totals thousands of pounds or tons, damaging the structure, growing mold, and lowering the value of the investment. Condensation water is caused by the differences in temperatures between the interior of the enclosure and the exterior environment. Water vapors migrate from warm to cold and the cold makes vapors revert to water. Water penetrates/permeates the walls by natural force (vapor pressure, wind washing pressure, capillarity), but there are no forces to take water out of walls. Moisture control is based on the idea that vapors need to escape from the interior to the exterior through the building envelope and targets the cycles of wetting and drying. Vapor barriers, intentional airflow through the building envelope, drainage and ventilation systems are the most common strategies currently implemented to resolve the moisture issues explained in this concept. This greatly reduce the effectiveness of insulation to an insignificant value. EIOS Thermosystem deviates from this concept and invents a new way to build by avoiding the condensation phenomenon. The result is a Zero Moisture, 100% airtight/waterproof envelope wall with a 100% Effective Insulation thermal enclosure.
With the Zero Moisture feature for the thermal-envelope walls warrantied for an unlimited time, EIOS Guarantees that your house/building will be always dry and healthy. The Moisture Free feature applies to any way in which the exterior environment can cause moisture by condensation, including any form of intruding water.
Note, EIOS System is not applied on round surfaces; the walls need to be flat.
The imposed conditions’ execution by the concept of Non-Permissive Thermo-Insulating Assembly NP-IA is based on the application of the patented technology NP-EIFS, together with the details of installation and intersection with construction elements.
The achievement of the EIOS Thermosystem starts with a thorough analysis of the aspects:
-
The structure type (light, wall cavity, or mineral);
-
Component materials;
-
Architectural geometry;
-
Climatic zone;
-
Orientation, shading factor;
-
Unidirectional thermal transmittance calculation U [W/m²K] (REAL).
This analysis is done for free by EIOS experts. The analysis aims to determine the thickness of the system and arranges terminations and the intersection with constructive elements to meet the conditions to avoid condensation.
The thickness of the EIOS thermal insulation System influences the thermal comfort and efficiency, and it is established through the will of the building owner, without having to go down below a level accepted for the good use of the Thermosystem.
Available EIOS Systems:
-
EIOS 3System, 3 inch (80 mm) thickness Non-Permissive Insulation,
U = 0.37 W/m²K, R-16.5
-
EIOS 4System, 4 inch (100 mm) thickness Non-Permissive Insulation
U = 0.46 W/m²K, R-22 Effective Values.
When the insulation conductivity coefficient is 99.9% applied to thermal envelope without being diminished by convection phenomenon and improper installation, the building will certainly achieve the thermal efficiency stipulated by code requirements.
EIOS System is an Over-Specified Thermo-Insulation system with an exterior application (Exterior Insulation Over Specified) that eliminates condensation by installing the XPS extruded polystyrene EIOS Seaboard with joints invented to facilitate interior and exterior sealing. XPS boards are considered to have close to zero permeability to vapor and water absorption.
The two sealing joints of the EIOS Sealboards are bonding sealed (two times) with closed-cell, expandable polyurethane foam EIOS Sealfom. All insulation joints are then over sealed with the polymer based, special formulated sealant EIOS Seal.
EIOS System
-
Support layer - generally any straight wall surface, without the water/air/vapor barrier;
-
The extruded polystyrene XPS panel - EIOS Sealboard with a special joint invented for interior-exterior sealing (between 50 mm and 120 mm thick) carries out the Non-Permissive Thermo-Insulating Assembly and a high degree of insulation. Boards are adhesively installed using EIOS Seafoam or EIOS Fix;
-
The back joint is sealed by applying low-expansion polyurethane foam EIOS Sealfoam;
-
The interior sealing is applied, and the boards are glued on the outline;
-
EIOS will then seal/fill the exterior EIOS Sealboards joints and non-standardized joints with EIOS Sealfoam;
-
The outer seal is applied by using polymeric EIOS Seal material on the exterior of the joints;
-
"Lamina" is the reinforcement layer consisting of highly resistant in alkaline environments fiberglass mesh, embedded in polymer-modified cement EIOS Stickcoat during application;
-
The final is EIOS's decorative and colorful coating, very resistant to weathering.
EIOS presents the world premiere of the only thermo-system that eliminates the problems associated with condensation and absorbed rainwater. This is achieved by applying the most current, innovative technologies based on the Principle of Avoiding Condensation and by putting the highest EIOS quality products into the project.
An overall Non-Permissive Thermo-Insulation layer is obtained with the elimination of condensation by separating the warm vapors from cold areas in a thermal insulation. This is accomplished through high thermal resistance R-value and by extending the EIOS Sealboard properties to the whole considered area.
All specifications from this Thermosystem are for exterior application.
EIOS provide highly competent experts in order to achieve the outlined objectives.
By applying the EIOS technology of eliminating condensation, Thermo-Insulation becomes an exact science.
Areas of application:
-
Vital for wooden and moisture-sensitive construction with high air/vapor permeability and susceptibility to dampening;
-
Timber construction;
-
Wooden structure + OSB/plywood or galvanized sheet profiles + sheetrock;
-
New and retrofit constructions.
Application:
On flat surfaces, free of dust and grease, directly onto the substrate.
-
Do not apply water/air/vapor barrier behind the Thermo system;

EIOS Sealboard is adhesively applied by using EIOS Fix adhesive paste or EIOS Sealfoam polyurethane foam;
-
Avoid fixing EIOS Sealboards with screws to eliminate dodge piercing and point thermal bridges;
-
When installing each EIOS Sealboard, an EIOS Sealfoam drawstring must be applied on the already installed board sides for interior sealing and bonding on the contour;
-
Joints between non-standardized EIOS Sealboard (cuts, corners, intersections with other elements, endings) should be solved by leaving a gap of approximately ½ inch (1-2 cm) when assembling;
-
EIOS Sealboards and the non-standardized filling joints are sealed (filled) with EIOS Sealfoam, the surplus being cut and leveled after it hardens;
-
The exterior joints and non-standardized joints are over-sealed by applying EIOS Seal material;
-
Ornaments and architectural designs are set by gluing with EIOS Sealfoam or EIOS Fix adhesive;
-
Lamina, the reinforcement layer, is created by embedding high-resistant fiberglass mesh in polymer-modified cement;
-
The decorative layer resistant to weathering is finally applied.

For various types of construction with walls that are sensitive to wetting (wood, OSB, plasterboard), metal walls, and various EIOS behind facade systems, the EIOS specialists are available for finding the complete and personalized technical solution.
It is also necessary to adapt the Thermosystem to windows/doors frame and intersection with other bodies, penetrations, and endings.
If EIOS Thermosystem is used as a Moisture-Free solution in envelope wall designs (instead of vapor barrier in the moisture control systems), a minimum of 2 inch (5 cm) thickness of Non-Permissive insulation is required to achieve the conditions of eliminating vapor diffusion.
EIOS 2System (2 inch/50 mm) is offered as a starting point in approaching the EIOS System for walls, having the following characteristics: U = 0.7 W/m²K respectively R = 1.42 m²K/W (R-10).
For Premium options we recommend:
- EIOS 3System (3 inch/80 mm) U = 0.46 W/m²K respectively R = 2.17 m²K/W (R-16.5)
- EIOS 4System (4 inch/100 mm) U = 0.37 W/m²K respectively R = 2.67 m²K/W (R-22).
For the concept of High-Performance Home, we offer the Passive Premium option, 5 inch (120 mm) thick:
- EIOS 5System U = 0.32 W/m²K respectively R = 3.17 m²K/W (R-27).
The transmittance and the thermal resistance (U, R) are achieved in real mode without correction due to convection, intentional/unintentional airflow, dampening or thermal bridges, adding values obtained from the wall structure and the non-ventilated air layers (structure cavity), plasterboard, and other materials.
When envelope walls are designed to contain fluffy/soft insulation such as fiberglass, cellulose, or mineral wool, a requirement for the R-value of this insulation plus the insulation value of air layers and the materials contained in the wall has to be lower than the R-value of the EIOS System installed. A true insulation value can move the dew point from inside of the Non-Permissive insulation in the structural wall, causing condensation.
Usually, the lower effectiveness of air-related insulations and the way they are installed allow the interior heat of the whole structural element of the enclosure to increase enough to keep the EIOS substrate dew-point free.
